DUSHANBE, 26.08.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On August 26, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, first got acquainted with the construction work progress at the dam of this hydroelectric facility at the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant dam is the highest rock-and-sand dam in the world, with its upper level at an altitude of 1,300 meters and its lower level at an altitude of 965 meters above sea level. The dam of the power plant consists of several parts, such as the upper retaining prism, the lower retaining prism, the prism ballast, the transition zone filters and the dam core. The dam core is the main part of the rock-and-sand dam and is made of crushed stone material with a very low water permeability in the center of the dam to prevent water from passing through.

In the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant dam area, work is carried out around the clock in two shifts, and more than 160 powerful machinery and mechanisms are deployed daily. Along with engineers and builders, geodesists and mountaineers are also working around the clock at this construction site, and are engaged in wiring the mountain slopes to make the construction sites safe.

During his previous working visit, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, instructed the Rogun HPP staff to accelerate the construction work in the core using modern equipment and technologies, and those responsible to ensure the raising of the dam to a level of 1,110 meters in August 2025.

The Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, was informed that during this period, gravel was laid on the upper and lower retaining prisms of the dam and, in accordance with the technology, clay and filter materials were laid layer by layer in the core of the dam up to a level of 1,105 meters above sea level. That is, in one year, the dam was raised by 70 meters.

It was reported that in the area of the dam of the power plant during 2025, 12.7 million cubic meters of rock, gravel, crushed clay and filters of the transition zone were laid, which is 42.6% of the design volume.

The engineering and technical staff of the power plant have shown courage and fortitude, strong will, round-the-clock work, and a high sense of patriotism in this arena of national honor, bringing closer the historic day of the completion of the construction of this facility of the century.

The Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized that in order to strengthen and stabilize the dam of this largest hydroelectric facility, the quality of construction work should be prioritized, and the work should be carried out using modern technologies and in accordance with international standards. Because the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant is recognized as environmentally friendly, this strategic facility is considered one of the best hydroelectric power plants in the world in terms of ecology, technology, and safety.

Time, as the true judge, will prove what a valuable role and value the decisive, steadfast and patriotic initiative of the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, has played in the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant for the decent life of the people of Tajikistan. Because only as a result of the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, sectors of the national economy will undergo unprecedented development and the level and quality of life of the people of Tajikistan will change radically.

During the visit to the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, was also accompanied by the Prime Minister of the country, Kokhir Rasulzoda, and the heads of relevant ministries and agencies.
