ACWA Power is implementing an energy project in Tajikistan involving the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,250 megawatts, NIAT Khovar reported, citing the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The project was discussed during a meeting in Dushanbe between the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, Daler Juma, and Abid Malik, President of ACWA Power for Central Asia.
During the talks, the parties reviewed key issues related to expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of solar power plant projects, which are expected to make a significant contribution to diversifying electricity generation sources and promoting the development of renewable energy in the country.
To strengthen the stability of Tajikistan’s energy system, improve the reliability of power supply, and increase electricity transmission capacity, the parties also underscored the importance of implementing the 500 kV high-voltage power transmission line project “Rogun–Sayhun,” as well as its extension from the Sayhun area to the “Sughd-500” substation.
The development of solar power plants in Tajikistan is supported by tax incentives. Under amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Tajikistan adopted by Parliament in December 2025, the import and supply of solar panels, their spare parts, and upgraded products are exempt from value-added tax until 2031. In addition, immovable property on which solar panels are installed is also exempt from VAT.
These measures are aimed at encouraging the use of solar energy technologies and creating favorable conditions for the expansion of renewable energy projects in the republic.
