Tajikistan and JICA Discuss Expanding Economic and Technological Cooperation

Today, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Hokim Kholikzoda met with Deputy President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Yoshifumi Yoshikawa, NIAT “Khovar” reports.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in priority economic and social sectors. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of Tajikistan–Japan relations and emphasized the importance of continuing a constructive dialogue.
It was noted that Japan, through JICA, makes a significant contribution to Tajikistan’s socio-economic development. Currently, joint projects are being implemented in the areas of transport infrastructure, energy, water supply, education, and healthcare.
Special attention was given to JICA’s role in training highly qualified specialists, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthening transport infrastructure. The sides also highlighted the importance of attracting Japanese direct investment into Tajikistan’s economy.
Key priorities identified included expanding cooperation in green energy, industry, transport, agriculture, education, and human capital development. The meeting further addressed collaboration in innovation and digital technologies, including plans to establish a Regional Artificial Intelligence Center in Dushanbe and a Joint Tajikistan–Japan Innovation Center.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue practical cooperation and further expand the bilateral partnership.
