DUSHANBE WATER PROCESS: Global Delegates Gather in Dushanbe for Key Conference Sessions

Plenary sessions, special panel discussions, thematic debates and closing meetings are scheduled Thursday in Tajikistan’s capital as part of the Fourth International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028.”
The day’s central event will be a plenary session at the Kokhi Somon, co-chaired by Tajikistan Deputy Prime Minister Sulaimon Ziyozoda and U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua.
Heads of delegations, representatives of international and regional organizations, financial institutions, experts and development partners are expected to address the gathering. Discussions will focus on strengthening international cooperation on water resources, advancing the global water agenda and supporting implementation of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference program also includes special panel discussions examining the results of the International Decade for Water Action, preparations for the 2028 U.N. Water Conference and policy priorities for global water governance beyond 2030.
Participants are set to discuss mechanisms for expanding international cooperation, adapting to climate change, improving public access to water and sanitation and advancing long-term sustainable development objectives in the water sector.
The conference will conclude with a final session followed by a press conference for media representatives.
