A delegation from the Republic of Tajikistan, led by First Deputy Prime Minister Khokim Kholikzoda, took part in the 59th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank in Samarkand.
More than 4,000 experts from over 100 countries, including government officials, international financial institutions, banks and major companies, are attending the meeting, held under the theme “Crossroads of Progress: Advancing the Interconnected Future of the Region,” according to the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management.
Discussions focused on digital and green transformation, climate resilience, supply chain development and food security, among other issues.
Kholikzoda highlighted the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and the bank, including economic reforms and continued financial and technical support for priority infrastructure projects in energy, transport, education, agriculture, irrigation, ecology, tourism and emergency management.
He emphasized climate change, the development of a green economy and attracting investment in strategic infrastructure as key to the country’s sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Kholikzoda met with Masato Kanda, president of the Asian Development Bank.
The talks focused on priority cooperation areas identified following a March meeting in Dushanbe between President Emomali Rahmon and Kanda.
They also discussed mobilizing financing for continued construction of the Rogun hydropower plant, coordinating joint efforts and attracting the bank’s financial and technical resources to mitigate the economic impact of the Middle East conflict, as well as to address natural disasters and restore infrastructure.
