On May 25, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, met with Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

During the meeting, cooperation between Tajikistan and this prestigious international organization was discussed.

President Emomali Rahmon welcomed the distinguished guest to Tajikistan on the occasion of the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” and expressed appreciation for the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s active engagement with Tajikistan on issues related to water resources and climate change.

It was noted that the Inter-Parliamentary Union today serves as an effective platform for advancing peace initiatives and addressing global challenges.

The important role of parliamentary diplomacy was also emphasized as a key instrument for strengthening relations between states in the areas of transparency, the sustainability of democratic principles, sustainable development, and other international norms.

A substantive exchange of views also took place on issues related to the peaceful resolution of contemporary global conflicts.
