Tajikistan private sector will be familiarized with series of the WTO agreements
Dushanbe, 04.10.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. A series of six workshops on raising Tajik business awareness on the World Trade Organization rules and regulations, Tajikistan commitments, and impact of those regulations to the country’s economic sectors has started today, on October 04, 2016 in Dushanbe city.
The International Trade Centre (ITC) and Tajik Chamber of Commerce and Industry with financial support of the Government of Switzerland bring together the representatives of Tajik private sector to improve their understanding and skills on WTO’s agreements on trade and service provision, Tajikistan’s commitments under those agreements, and benefits and challenges the private sector can get and/or face within them. The workshops will be conducted by the experts of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan and other relevant ministries and agencies. Dushanbe, Khujand, and Qurghonteppa will host two workshops each with the last one scheduled on October 28, 2016.
Main aspects of the implementation and Tajikistan’s commitments under the following WTO Agreements will be in the focus of the workshops: Trade Facilitation Agreement, Agreement on Agriculture, General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), and Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS).
Current trade challenges Tajik exporters face in the foreign markets and country’s WTO membership impact in overcoming those challenges will also be discussed.
The ITC, through this technical assistance project, is committed to support Tajikistan’s public and private sector in strengthening their knowledge of the opportunities and challenges stemming from the WTO membership.
