Speech by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italian Republic Manlio Di Stefano at the “Roghun” HPP first unit launch ceremony
DUSHANBE, 19.11.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/. On November 16, 2018, Manlio Di Stefano, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italian Republic, attended and delivered a speech at the launch ceremony of the first unit of the “Roghun” HPP in Tajikistan. In his speech, Manlio Di Stefano, in particular, noted:

Vice President of the World Bank,
Ambassadors,
Ladies and gentlemen!
I am proud and honored to be here today, together with you, to attend this ceremony. I am honored because we are in front of a great human and technological endeavor.
Tajikistan over the years of independence has undergone large-scale transformations under your far-sighted leadership. Today we are witnessing an important event.
The launching of the first unit of the fateful facility will mark a completely new in the development of the modern hydro industry. Roghun is a triumph of an innovative approach combined with sophisticated engineering and technical solutions.
The Rogun Dam which is going to be the highest worldwide, 335 meters. And I am proud because an Italian company, Salini Impregilo, is contributing to this huge result, as a world leader in construction and infrastructure.
This is a strategic project for the country. The positive impact will spread, of course, on energy sector, redoubling the production capability, as well as on agriculture and trade balance.
This is a strategic project for the Region, as in the framework of the transmission project Central Asia-South Asia (CASA-1000), Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Pakistan will benefit from the energy produced by the Rogun power plant.
Energy, likewise environment and global climate change, represents a global challenge, which needs to be tackled with a shared approach at regional and international level.
Italy, as bilateral partner and EU member, welcomes and supports the cooperation spirit in Central Asia and Italy, with its companies, is ready to do their part of the job. We will be aside of Tajikistan in its efforts of modernization and reform. And I can assure you that you will be satisfied with our work.
It is safe to say that the project being implemented by Salini Imprigelio is a symbol of strong friendship between Tajikistan and Italy.
