Moscow Hosts Council Meeting of the Heads of CIS State News Agencies
MOSCOW, 25.11.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – The 27th meeting of the Council of Heads of State News Agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held on November 25 at the TASS headquarters in Moscow.
Kovar’s Director Saidali Siddiq along with the heads of Azerbaijani AzerTAс A. Aslanov, Armenian Armenpress A. Ananyan, Belarusian BelTA I. Akulovich, Kyrgyz Kabar K. Taabaldiev, Uzbek UzA A. Kuchimov, TASS First Deputy General Director M. Gusman, Editor-in-Chief of Kazakh Kazinform B. Tanelbaeva, Chief of TASS International Relations Department O. Ostrovidov, head of the CIS and Baltic countries sector B. Grushin, Chief of Information and Analytical Department of the CIS Executive Committee A. Zavarzin attended the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by the Council’s Chairman, TASS General Director Sergei Mikhailov. Issues in focus included preparations for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
“This is our common holiday, for the sake of which our peoples had to defend the right to life of future generations. We cannot allow ourselves to forget about the great feat of the people who emerged victorious in the bloodiest war in the history of mankind,” said Mikhailov.
“News agencies have creative and technical potential which allows to convey to the younger generation history, knowledge and values, and the memory of the heroism of our citizens, and the atrocities of fascism,” emphasized Mikhailov.
“TASS is preparing a large-scale photo exhibition “Press at War,» which will include photos taken by the agencies’ correspondents as well as archived photographs,” informed the council’s Chairman.
He invited his colleagues to join its organization and assist in the search for rare wartime chronicles. The exhibition will be held at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow.
The speakers highlighted special projects devoted to the Great Victory.
An agreement was reached on the cooperation of CIS agencies in covering the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory.
Their next meeting will be held in March 2020 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
