DUSHANBE, 07.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – “Tajikistan comes out on the international arena with creative proposals and initiatives on water issues, and in this regard, the country has proven its leadership, which is supported and appreciated by the world community,” said President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon today at the Second International High-Level Water Conference dedicated to the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028.»
According to him, Tajikistan exhibits an example of rational and effective study of water resources.
“Tajikistan has adopted the State Program for the Study and Protection of Glaciers until 2030 in order to track these processes and adaptation measures. We have established a Center for the Study of Glaciers at the National Academy of Sciences, and we are increasing our effort in this direction at the international level. It should be noted that Tajikistan took the initiative to establish the International Glacier Protection Fund and declare 2025 the International Year for the Protection of Glaciers,” he emphasized.
Describing glaciers as the main source of clean water, President Emomali Rahmon noted that their rapid melting, along with an increase in water consumption associated with population growth and economic development, could have very negative consequences.
