DUSHANBE, 06.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the UN delegation led by Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin who is taking part in the Second Dushanbe Conference on the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development,» 2018-2028.
During the conversation, the two sides discussed current issues related to Tajik-UN cooperation.
President Rahmon expressed satisfaction over the level of fruitful cooperation, in particular the eight global initiatives of Tajikistan on water issues, which were unanimously supported by the UN General Assembly.
The Dushanbe Water Conference is a result of this support and will actively facilitate the goals and objectives of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Paris Agreement, and the New Urban Agenda.
Climate change and mitigation of its consequences, disaster prevention, population growth, access to clean water, food security, and attraction of funds in this area were also discussed during the meeting.
They also touched upon UN’s 2023 Water Conference which will be held in New York.
