Tajik Parliament Legalizes Online Interrogations

DUSHANBE, 25.07.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik investigators got the right to interrogate victims and witnesses who are outside of Tajikistan remotely via the Internet, including through e-mail and other instant messengers. In this regard, amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code were adopted at the 11th session of the National Assembly of Tajikistan, which was held on July 15 under the chairmanship of the Speaker Rustam Emomali.
While commenting on the changes, member of the National Assembly Dilshod Rahmon said that part 2 was introduced into Article 197, according to which, if the witness or the victim is outside the country, the interrogation can be carried out remotely.
He added that the conversations will take place using telecommunications and e-mail, and neutral persons can also take part in them.
The amendment is introduced at a time when according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, a decline in crime is recorded.
For the six months of 2022, 12,482 offenses were registered in Tajikistan, while a year earlier there were 1,396 more.
The crime rate has decreased by 10%, the Ministry of Internal Affairs specified.
In addition, operatives have detained 1,447 wanted criminals.
