DUSHANBE, 07.11.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – In his congratulatory message, President Emomali Rahmon named the Constitution a fateful document and guide for the people of Tajikistan.

He called on every citizen to consider it sacred, as well as to pay tribute to it as a great achievement of the Tajik people during the period of independence.

“Our Constitution expresses the supreme interests of the people and the state, a stable system of statehood, protection of political and economic independence, territorial integrity, the rule of law and the orderly activity of state authorities,” he noted.

He also emphasized the necessity of instilling a sense of respect for state symbols and national shrines — the National flag, Emblem, Anthem, and of course, the Constitution in the minds of the younger generations.

President Emomali Rahmon expressed his confidence that the people of Tajikistan will continue to make their valuable patriotic contribution to the implementation of the norms and values of the Constitution.

The Constitution Day is one of the main national holidays of Tajikistan and is celebrated annually on November 6.

The Constitution was adopted on November 6, 1994, as a result of a national referendum. Later, due to the change in the political and social situation in the country as a result of a national referendum — on September 26, 1999 and June 22, 2003, amendments and additions were made to the Constitution.

On May 22, 2016, another nationwide referendum was held in Tajikistan for amendments and additions to the Constitution. As a result of the amendments, the word “Sarkonun” (“Basic Law”) was abolished and in favor of the word Constitution.

The Constitution enshrines the fundamental principles and norms of society and the state, which constitute the political, economic, social, cultural, legal basis, and foreign policy of the state.
