Rustam Emomali Meets with Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko

DUSHANBE, 28.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – Today in Moscow, Rustam Emomali, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan and Mayor of Dushanbe, held a meeting with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, as part of his official visit to Russia.

The meeting began with a tet-a-tet conversation between Rustam Emomali and Valentina Matviyenko, followed by extended talks with the participation of delegations from both sides.

During the discussions, a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Russia were addressed, including current regional and international matters.

Rustam Emomali expressed his gratitude to the Russian side for the invitation to undertake this official visit, as well as for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him.

The importance of further developing and expanding comprehensive cooperation between the two countries was emphasized, with a focus on areas such as politics, trade and economy, culture and humanitarian relations, science and technology, military and defense cooperation, and other relevant fields.

Both parties acknowledged with satisfaction the current dynamic of inter-parliamentary dialogue between Tajikistan and Russia, particularly within the framework of the Commission for Cooperation between the National Assembly and the Federation Council, as well as the Inter-Parliamentary Forum «Tajikistan and Russia: The Potential for Interregional Cooperation.»

The sides highly appreciated the current level of relations between Tajikistan and Russia, which are built on the traditions of mutual understanding, equality, and trust. These relations have been consistently strengthened through the joint efforts of the leaders of both countries, Emomali Rahmon and Vladimir Putin.

During the negotiations, discussions were held regarding the current situation and prospects for cooperation in promising areas such as trade and economic relations, energy, and industry. Particular attention was paid to the issue of attracting Russian investments to establish joint industrial enterprises tailored to the needs of the Russian market, the creation of industrial parks with localized production, and the development of modern logistics infrastructure.

The importance of creating favorable conditions for expanding regional cooperation between the two countries was also recognized.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including active links in education, culture, and tourism.

In addition, a substantial exchange of views took place on issues related to labor migration and other topics of mutual interest.

Further into the conversation, both sides underlined their active cooperation on the international stage, particularly within the frameworks of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The parties also noted that 2025 has been declared the International Year for Glaciers’ Preservation and highlighted the significance of the upcoming High-level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preseervation, to be held in Dushanbe.

During the talks, special attention was given to security issues, the rise of transnational threats, and the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and the broader region.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their positive outlook on the future of their strategic partnership and expressed confidence that the official visit of Rustam Emomali to Russia would open a new chapter in Tajik-Russian bilateral relations.

As the meeting came to a close, Rustam Emomali invited Valentina Matviyenko to visit Tajikistan officially.

As part of the parliamentary meetings and talks between Tajikistan and Russia, Rustam Emomali visited the building of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, where he toured a photo exhibition dedicated to inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia and signed the Book of Honorary Guests.
