DUSHANBE, 26.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Energy Ministers Meeting, along with a series of supporting events, will be held on June 26–27 in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. The forum is expected to present “China’s Solution” for global energy transformation, leveraging Ningbo’s innovative green practices and industrial advancements.
According to the Ningbo International Communication Center, as one of the largest diplomatic events hosted by China’s energy sector in 2025, and a high-level side event of the current SCO Summit under China’s rotating presidency, the meeting is themed “Integrate Innovation for Energy Future”. It aims to build consensus among SCO members and deepen multilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
The meeting will gather representatives from the SCO Secretariat, energy regulators of member states, observer countries, dialogue partners, and major international organizations, as well as energy enterprises, research institutions, and universities.
The opening ceremony will mark the official release of the China-SCO Renewable Energy Cooperation Report 2024, followed by three parallel forums focused on technological, industrial, and policy innovation, with an emphasis on energy transition and sustainable development.
Ningbo’s Green Leadership
Ningbo, the world’s first port city with over 1.3 billion tons of annual cargo throughput, has emerged as a green transformation leader, especially in new energy applications and smart manufacturing.
Key highlights of Ningbo’s innovations include:
- Integrated Green Power Demonstration at Chuanshan Port: Featuring distributed wind power, photovoltaics (PV), energy storage, and microgrids, this system has generated over 40 million kWh since January 2024, cutting carbon emissions by about 24,000 tons. A mere five days of full operation of two 6.25 MW wind turbines can supply a month’s electricity to 169 gantry cranes at the port.
- Zeekr Electric Vehicle Factory (Meishan): At this intelligent manufacturing site, a pure electric vehicle rolls off the production line every 110 seconds, powered by smart robotics. The plant anchors a ¥100 billion industrial ecosystem for new energy vehicles in Ningbo.
- Li’ao Village Rooftop PV Project: In Haishu District, 362 households have installed rooftop solar panels, generating 600,000 kWh annually and producing about ¥500,000 in income per year for the community.
- Ningbo Industrial Internet Institute: This high-tech hub has incubated 46 innovative enterprises, attracting skilled professionals in digital and green tech industries.
Founded in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has grown into the world’s largest regional cooperation body, comprising 10 member states, 2 observer states, and 14 dialogue partners. In line with the designation of 2025 as the SCO Year of Sustainable Development, the Ningbo meeting reflects the organization’s strong commitment to advancing clean energy, innovation, and resilient regional development.
This event is expected to serve as a cornerstone for deeper multilateral energy cooperation, providing new momentum to the sustainable future of the SCO region and beyond.
