DUSHANBE, 26.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 26, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, opened the Sebzor Hydroelectric Power Plant in Roshtqal’a district.
The important energy facility consists of 3 units, with a production capacity of 11 megawatts.
The Sebzor Hydroelectric Power Plant was built as part of the Government’s support for the activities of the private sector by attracting foreign investment, and the installed technology allows for the production of more than 77.6 million kWh of environmentally friendly electricity per year.
The Sebzor Hydroelectric Power Plant will provide 220 thousand people with access to electricity, which will contribute to the development of economic and social sectors. It will also provide additional opportunities for exporting electricity to other countries.
It should be recalled that the foundation stone for the construction of the Sebzor Hydropower Plant was laid by the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, on July 29, 2015.
The length of the dam of the power plant is 65 and its height is 8.5 meters. The commissioning of the Sebzor Hydropower Plant has made it possible to increase electricity production in Badakhshan by 25 percent and improve the reliability and level of electricity supply.
The Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, considered the construction of the Sebzor Hydropower Plant to be important for improving electricity supply and the dual development of economic and social sectors.
During the construction of the Sebzor Hydropower Plant, up to 600 people were employed, and the use of modern equipment allowed the construction to be completed in accordance with the project requirements.
In total, 97% of the work at the Sebzor Hydropower Plant was completed by workers and specialists from local companies. The use of modern technology has allowed the plant to operate autonomously.
In recent years, the construction and modernization of hydroelectric power plants in the Republic of Tajikistan, along with an increase in production capacity, has also contributed to the increase in professional skills and the contribution of Tajik specialists to the construction of hydropower facilities.
After the Sebzor Hydropower Plant was put into operation, 20 local specialists were permanently employed.
The generated electricity is regulated at the 110-kilovolt Sebzor substation and connected to the general power grid of the Badakhshan Mountainous Autonomous Province through the 110-kilovolt Sebzor-Khorugh transmission line with a length of 18 kilometers.
The implementation of the “Strategy for the Development of the “Green Economy” for 2023-2037” is provided by ensuring the efficient use of natural resources, attracting investment, introducing modern and innovative technologies, and on this basis, the construction of hydroelectric power plants.
The foundation of the Sebzor Hydropower Plant as part of the implementation of the «green economy» program by the Government of the country is considered evidence of increasing success in attracting foreign investment, using modern technology, contributing to preventing climate change, and increasing achievements in the production of «green energy».
