DUSHANBE WATER PROCESS. Dushanbe to host the Fourth Int’l Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”

In May 2026, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, will host the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028, NIAT Khovar reports.
In preparation for this high-level event, in accordance with the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Organizing Committee for the Preparation and Holding of Events within the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” was established.
Recently, the first meeting of the Organizing Committee for the Preparation and Holding of Events within the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” was held in Dushanbe under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Organizing Committee — Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kokhir Rausulzoda. The meeting discussed issues related to the preparation and holding of the Fourth Dushanbe Conference on the Water Decade.
In accordance with the Resolution of the Government of the country, an action plan for the preparation and holding of the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028» has been approved.
The Republic of Tajikistan has been consistently and actively promoting the water agenda in the international arena. Over the past two decades, Tajikistan’s global initiatives have been supported by the United Nations General Assembly, which plays an important role in promoting water and climate issues at various levels. That is why Tajikistan’s global initiatives, especially in the areas of water, climate and glacier protection, have brought together UN member states and their agencies, regional and international structures, civil society and other stakeholders in the past two decades to find solutions to the planet’s environmental problems.
To date, 14 resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly on water and climate issues have been adopted at the initiative of Tajikistan, which laid the foundation for the implementation of specific goals, including the «2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development».
