Youth Navruz Festival Opens in Dushanbe with Global Participants, Cultural and Sports Events

DUSHANBE, 23.03.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – The Second International Youth Navruz Festival opened March 22 in Dushanbe and will continue through March 26, the Committee for Youth Affairs and Sports under the Government of Tajikistan reported.

On the opening day, more than 200 young participants from 30 countries laid wreaths at the Ismail Somoni monument, attended the festival opening at the National Library of Tajikistan, and took part in a tree-planting campaign.

During the festival, participants will visit Navruz celebrations and cultural sites in Dushanbe, Hisor, Tursunzoda, and the cities and districts of Khatlon region.

The festival aims to unite youth worldwide around shared values of peace, friendship, cultural diversity and sustainable development, support cultural dialogue, promote the heritage of Navruz as a symbol of renewal and hope, and create a platform for youth initiatives addressing global challenges.

As part of the festival, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Youth Forum, proposed by President Emomali Rahmon, is being held in Dushanbe to foster international cooperation, cultural exchange, and understanding among youth. Participants share experiences, ideas and projects aimed at improving social, economic and environmental conditions.

The festival and forum feature a cultural program, national performances, handicraft exhibitions, a gastronomic festival, educational panels and forums, greening initiatives, environmental protection activities, sports competitions, visits to historical sites, and exploration of Navruz traditions.

Navruz, one of the oldest holidays celebrated across Central Asia, the Middle East and the Caucasus, marks the arrival of spring, nature’s renewal, and the start of a new solar year. Traditions include preparing festive dishes, mass celebrations, sports competitions, theatrical performances and charity events.
