DUSHANBE, 27.03.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – On March 27, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Honorable Shavkat Mirziyoyev, jointly visited the historical sites of the ancient city of Bukhara.
The visit of the President of our country, Emomali Rahmon, to the city of Bukhara was marked by a visit to the Bukhara Fortress, the historical and memorial complex and the tomb of Bahauddin Naqshband, the “Labi Hauz” complex, the “Poi Kalon” architectural complex, and the Ismoil Somoni Mausoleum.
The Samanid dynastic Mausoleum, which is an architectural monument of the 9th-10th centuries, was the center of attention.
It was reported that the Samanid Mausoleum, as one of the masterpieces of architectural art, is the product of the hands of craftsmen of that time. This magnificent and very beautiful building, embodying the traditions of ancient architecture, was built at the end of the 9th century by order of the great statesman Ismoil Somoni (849-907) on the tomb of his father Ahmad ibn Asad (died 865).
Ismoil himself, his son Nasri II, and several members of this generation are also buried inside the mausoleum. The mausoleum is square in shape and is covered with a magnificent dome, the perimeter of which is decorated with four garlands. Four towers stand at its four corners, connecting the base and the upper part of the wall, increasing the proportion, size, and strength of the mausoleum.
The Samanid Mausoleum, known as the Mausoleum of Ismoil Somoni, is almost the only structure that has survived from the Samanid era in its entirety. It is one of the rarest historical monuments of the glorious Bukhara and one of the rarest monuments in Central Asia.
The structure is also included in the ISESCO Cultural Heritage List. Hundreds of tourists from all over the world come to visit this place every day.
We remind that during the period of independence, through the direct efforts of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, after a thousand years, the meritorious services of Ismoil Somoni as the first founder of the Tajik state were paid tribute. In particular, in 1999, the 1100th anniversary of the Somoni statehood was celebrated with great pomp, and a monument to the great Ismoil Somoni was erected in the city of Dushanbe. The national currency is the Somoni, and one of the districts of the capital was named after him.
