Road freight transportation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan increased during the first four months of 2026, with total cargo volumes rising 5.8% and the number of vehicles increasing 17.9% compared with the same period last year.
The figures were discussed during a meeting between Tajik Transport Minister Azim Ibrohim and Kazakh Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev held in Astana on the sidelines of the 18th session of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, according to Tajikistan’s Transport Ministry.
The sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the transport sector, including the development of international transport corridors, simplification of transit procedures, digitalization of transport services and increasing infrastructure capacity.
Ibrohim said Tajikistan attaches particular importance to transport cooperation with Kazakhstan, describing the country as one of Tajikistan’s key regional partners.
Officials also noted growth in rail and transit freight traffic through Kazakhstan. In 2025, total rail cargo transportation exceeded 5.6 million tons, an increase of more than 621,000 tons compared with 2024, the ministry said.
