On October 24, during his working visit to the city of Vahdat, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, laid the foundation stone for the rehabilitation project of the Vahdat–Obi Garm highway.

The project is aimed at developing transport infrastructure, improving vehicle traffic conditions, enhancing road safety, and strengthening economic and trade relations.

During the presentation, President Emomali Rahmon was informed that the highway would extend for 70 kilometers and consist of two traffic lanes accommodating movement in both directions. The carriageway will be 10–12 meters wide, with road shoulders measuring 2.5 meters.

The project also envisages the construction of pedestrian walkways with a total length of 16,600 meters, the installation of 1,850 road signs, 1,500 meters of protective parapet barriers, and the implementation of other engineering and infrastructure works.

As emphasized, the rehabilitation of the Vahdat–Roghun highway will help ensure uninterrupted traffic throughout the year, save time and fuel during the transportation of goods and products, and create new jobs.

President Emomali Rahmon was informed that the Vahdat–Roghun highway, together with all the necessary infrastructure, would be completed and commissioned within one and a half years.

The rehabilitation project is being implemented as part of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan’s efforts to develop transport infrastructure and improve living conditions for the population.

At the same location, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon reviewed the progress of construction works on the bridge and connecting roads under Lot 3 of the Obi Garm–Nurobod highway project.

The new bridge, which crosses the reservoir of the Roghun Hydropower Plant, will be 920 meters long, while its connecting roads will extend for 1.5 kilometers.

Upon completion, the project will improve traffic conditions along this route.

During the inspection, the President was informed that the bridge consists of eight piers and 78 piles. Drilling and concrete pouring for the piles have been fully completed.

Meanwhile, reinforcement and concrete works on the bridge supports are continuing around the clock. The necessary construction machinery and equipment are being used to ensure that the work is completed on time and to the required quality standards.

Alongside bridge construction, preparations and construction works on the connecting roads are also underway.

In total, more than 73 units of heavy construction machinery and equipment, as well as over 200 local and foreign specialists, have been engaged in the project.

The project is being implemented by reputable international construction companies.

Funding for the project is provided by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

The implementation of these projects will contribute to improved transport conditions, economic and social development in the region, and more efficient use of the country’s transport potential.
