DUSHANBE, 21.06.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – On June 26, the opening of the LIDAR installation is planned at the S. Umarov Physical-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

Scientists from the Leipzig Institute for Tropospheric Research, as well as representatives of the German Embassy in Tajikistan will attend the opening ceremony.

“LIDAR is a technology for detecting, identifying and determining distance using light, designed to receive and process information about remote objects using active optical systems that use absorption and scattering light in optically transparent environments. It should be noted that the basis of this technology appeared in the 1960s,” informed the Director of S. Umarov Institute of Physical-Technical Farhod Shakir.

Studying the atmosphere using stationary LIDARS is the most widespread method currently in use.

“The LIDAR installation is a device for sounding the atmosphere using a laser beam that can detect several impurities in a trillion molecules of air at a height of tens of kilometers. Optical sounding today is one of the most reliable and accurate methods for studying the atmosphere. The LIDAR installation allows for a detailed study of clouds, atmosphere, aerosol concentrations in a short time,” said Farhod Shakir.

Prior to that, there was no such equipment in Tajikistan. The studies were conducted by using old equipment.
