Presidents of CASA-1000 project states-participants to gather in Tajikistan to lay the first stone
Dushanbe, 18.03.2016. (NIAT “Khovar”). — It is expected that the heads of states- participants of the CASA-1000 project (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan) will take part in laying the first stone for the practical implementation of the project, which is scheduled on May 12 in Tajikistan this year.
Earlier it was reported that President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon’s proposal to hold the ceremony of launching the construction of inter-regional power transmission line in Tajikistan was approved by the leadership of Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
It is worth noting that last year, four participating countries of the project signed all the necessary agreements. In particular, the documents on electricity supply and tariffs, as well as other important agreements.
It is expected that Pakistan will begin to import electricity for CASA-1000 lines in 2017 in the amount of 1,000 MW per year. In the case of Afghanistan will not be able to consume the allocated under the project of 300 MW of electricity per year, it will be forwarded to Pakistan. The project will allow Kyrgyzstan and neighboring Tajikistan to export electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the amount of 1,300 MW per year.
The goal of CASA-1000 project is to organize the export of surplus electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in the summer in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Moreover, this project will contribute to the development of electricity trading arrangements and the establishment of «Central Asia — South Asia Regional Electricity Market» (CASAREM).
It is planned that the project will be completed by 2020.
