Tajik delegation takes part in EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting in Brussels
On October 4th, 2016, the delegation of Tajikistan was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov took part in EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting in Brussels.
The Foreign Ministers of Central Asian countries and the The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherinii attended the meeting.
According to the Tajik MFA Information Department, during the event, participants discussed a wide range of issues of shared interest, including the recent review of the EU Strategy for Central Asia, the development of overall relations between the EU and Central Asia, cooperation in water and energy, economic and educational fields, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, combating common threats and challenges. Ministers recognized the importance of EU relations with the region.
After the session, the meeting of Minister S. Aslov with the Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmidt was held, during which the sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation, political and international security in the region. S. Aslov familiarized the Secretary-General of the European External Action Service with the initiatives of Tajikistan, in particular, with the National Development Strategy of Tajikistan until 2030 and called upon the EU to assist in its implementation. Also, the EU stressed the importance of expansion of cooperation in combating international and regional challenges, such as terrorism, extremism, radicalism and drug trafficking.
