Start of modernization and reconstruction of «Azot» industrial enterprise
Today, in Sarband town, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon visited the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) “Azot” and launched the second phase of reconstruction and modernization of plant.
First of all, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon got familiar with the current state of the plant, and held a fruitful conversation with the workers and professionals about the importance of the plant in the development of industry and agriculture.
OJSC «Azot» — the former Vakhsh nitrogen fertilizer plant, is considered to be the first largest chemical enterprise in Tajikistan, functioning since 1967. There were two technological lines for the production of ammonia and carbamide with the capacity of 180 thousand tons. More than 1,200 persons were employed at the plant.
OJSC Azot reportedly produces carbamide, ammonia, carbon dioxide, oxygen and liquid nitrogen.
The plant reportedly also has service shop for power supply and repairing mechanical, electrical and measuring equipment, transport, construction and maintenance equipment, a centralized department of technical control and sanitary laboratory.
About 1,000 people now work at the plant and its products are expected to be exported to Afghanistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania.
An Investment Agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and China’s Henan Zhongya Holding Group on reconstruction and putting into operation of enterprises for the production of ammonia and carbamide in the town of Sarband of Khatlon Province on the basis of OJSC «Azot» was signed on September 3, 2016, under the direct support of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
360 million U.S. dollars are expected to be allocated for modernization of coal-powered technological equipment and construction of new shops for production of carbamide and ammonia.
The project is expected to be implemented in two phases. The first phase includes modernization and introduction into operation of shops with capacity of producing 320,000 tons of ammonia and carbamide per year.
The Head of State Emomali Rahmon instructed the responsible persons of the Chinese company to complete the reconstruction and modernization in one year and two months, and put it in commission in February 2018. It was also instructed to involve 95% of the workers from the local residents in the course of operations.
The second phase of the project envisages the construction on the area of 45 hectares of plants for the production of 500 thousand tons of ammonia and carbamide. The funding of the second phase of the enterprise will amount to 325 million Somoni and 500 thousand tons of coalshall be consumed annually. The project implementation period is 3 years.
According to preliminary data, 1,000 new jobs will be created after the completion of the plant modernization project and the construction of new production plants.
