President Emomali Rahmon receives First Vice-President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Philip Bennett
DUSHANBE, 28.03.2017. /NIAT «Khovar»/. The Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon received today the First Vice-President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Philip Bennett, and Ayten Rustamova, the new Head of EBRD Resident Office in Dushanbe.
Bilateral cooperation was the main subject on the agenda, in particular, EBRD further activities in Tajikistan.
President of the country Emomali Rahmon wished success to the new Head of EBRD Resident Office in Dushanbe, Ms. Ayten Rustamova, in achieving common goals.
During the meeting, the parties noted that support for energy projects and strengthening of production and export potentials are one of important objectives to remove negative impact of external factors on Tajikistan’s economy and stabilize the macroeconomic situation.
It was also expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Tajikistan and the EBRD on implementation of investment projects aimed at enhancing the infrastructures of the cities and developing private sector in Tajikistan as well as improving access to financial resources.
To date, the EBRD has financed 100 investment projects in Tajikistan in the amount of 750 million US dollars. At present, cooperation is continuing to implement 65 projects worth 420 million US dollars.
It was stressed that the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030 had been adopted for the purpose of creating conditions for further development and ensuring national priorities.
A number of opportunities have been taken into account in this strategy by EBRD for increasing the volume of financing projects in the field of energy, transport, entrepreneurship and finance.
The sides also discussed issues related to supporting private sector, developing small and medium-sized enterprises, and modernizing industrial enterprises, as well as implementation of the strategy for industrialization of Tajikistan.
