Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN elected as the Vice President of ECOSOC
DUSHANBE, 28.07.2017 /NIAT “Khovar”/. On July 27 at the first meeting of the 2018 Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) session Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN, was elected as Vice President of the ECOSOC for the 2018 session from the Asia-Pacific Group, which includes 55 member states, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN reports.
It is for the first time that a representative of Tajikistan is elected as Vice-President of one of the main UN bodies.
Among the other elected candidates are the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic (of Eastern European Group) elected as President, and the Permanent Representatives of Belgium (of Western European and other States) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (of Group of Latin American and Caribbean States) elected as two other Vice-Presidents.
