DUSHANBE, 30.08.2017 /NIAT “Khovar”/. On August 31, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Tajikistan Elizabeth Millard will depart Tajikistan to assume a senior position in the State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. It was stated in the statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan.
“While she is honored to be named to such a high-ranking position, Ambassador Millard is very sad to be leaving Tajikistan. Over the last year and a half, she has enjoyed Tajikistan’s breathtaking natural beauty, its rich culture and language, and especially the unforgettable hospitality of its people”, — says the statement.
The statement also reads that the new U.S. Ambassador has not yet been named. Deputy Chief of Mission Kevin Covert will assume the role of Chargé d’Affaires after Ambassador Millard leaves on August 31.
“Ambassador Millard is honored to have been part of the work that the U.S. Embassy has done during more than one and half years as U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan, — adds the message. — During her tenure, the United States and Tajikistan have strengthened the C5+1 platform to allow the United States and the five countries of Central Asia to work together on issues of common concern. The two countries celebrated 25 years of diplomatic relations, reflecting on the progress in education, health, business, agriculture, and military cooperation that this partnership has promoted”.
