Head of State Emomali Rahmon met with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau
DUSHANBE, 21.09.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon met with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on the sideline of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 72) in New York.
It was stressed that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Canada. Tajikistan-Canada’s relations have been developing based on a solid foundation of mutual respect, mutual trust, equality and mutual benefit.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon pointed out that Tajikistan highly appreciates Canada’s border assistancefor strengthening of Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan, combating drug trafficking, and, the support for the OSCE Border Management Staff College in Tajikistan.
Bilateral relations and their prospects, particularly in trade and the economy, energy, transportation, security and technology of processing agricultural products were also discussed during the meeting.
In connection with threats and challenges facing modern world, the two leaders continued their exchange of views on strengthening interstate integration in the fight against international terrorism, extremism and illegal drug trade.
A constructive exchange of views also took place on other important issues of mutual interest.
The meeting was held in a spirit of mutual understanding and goodwill. The Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, invited Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau to visit Tajikistan at his convenience.
