DUSHANBE, 17.09.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/.  The Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon met with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the sidelines of an official opening of the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat.

Emomali Rahmon, Leader of the Nation, at the beginning of the meeting expressed his gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov for the invitation to participate in the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Games and congratulated the entire Turkmen people on this important sporting event.

It was stressed that such a grandiose sports event in Central Asia is being held for the first time and one can hope that it will give a serious impetus to the development of sport and its mass character in the region.

Constant dialogues at the highest level were assessed as important in the development of friendly cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

It was noted that Tajikistan and Turkmenistan at the international level have good friendly cooperation and the countries are ready to strengthen work in this direction to solve regional and world problems, using the available conditions and opportunities.

Emomali Rahmon and Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov, referring to economic cooperation, where both countries have ample opportunities, considered it important to hold in this plan meetings of the intergovernmental commission.

It was stressed that the main directions of development of economic cooperation between the two countries cover energy, transportation, agriculture, and tourism.

The sides stated that Tajikistan and Turkmenistan today have great opportunities and many projects for the development of cooperation in the energy sector.

In this regard, the construction of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan-China gas pipeline and the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway were mentioned.

At the bilateral meeting between Emomali Rahmon and Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov, other important aspects of the national economy were also considered.
