Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani
DUSHANBE, 16.04.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/. Ahead of the 23rd session of the ECO Council of Foreign Ministers in Dushanbe, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani.
The two sides discussed issues pertaining to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in various fields, including trade and economy, people-to-people and humanitarian contacts.
In this context, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan emphasized the necessity of the subsequent elaboration of the implementation of regional energy infrastructure projects aimed at the wide attraction of Afghanistan to the process of regional cooperation.
The current security situation in Afghanistan, especially in its regions bordering Tajikistan, was one of the main subjects of the agenda.
In this connection, the sides pointed to the necessity of expansion of cooperation in addressing modern challenges and threats, including terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime and trafficking in drugs and other organized transnational crimes.
The sides also exchanged views on other relevant regional and international issues.
