Representative of Tajikistan Jumakhon Giyosov appointed as the Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure
DUSHANBE, 12.06.2018. /NIAT “Khovar”/. At the 18th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council, which was held on June 9-10 in the Chinese city of Qingdao, the representative of Tajikistan Jumakhon Giyosov was appointed as the Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
Jumakhon Giyosov, who previously worked as the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Religious Affairs, Regulation of Traditions and Ceremonies under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, will assume his duties in a new position on January 1, 2019. His powers will last until December 31, 2021.
The Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) is a permanent SCO body with headquarters in Tashkent. The main functions of this body are to coordinate the efforts of all SCO member states in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, the development of proposals for combating terrorism, the collection and analysis of information, the formation of a database on individuals and organizations supporting criminals, carrying out operational-search and other measures to combat these phenomena, maintaining contacts with international organizations. The RATS consists of the Council and the Executive Committee (a standing body). The Council, composed of the heads of the competent authorities of the Organization’s countries, is the governing body that makes decisions. The Chairman of the RATS Executive Committee is appointed by the Heads of State Council.
At the meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council in Qingdao, former Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov has been appointed as a new SCO Secretary General. In this position he will replace the representative of Tajikistan Rashid Alimov.
Vladimir Norov currently holds the post of Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
We will recall that on June 9-10 this year in Qingdao (PRC) took place the 18th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council.
It was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.
The meeting was also attended by SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov and Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) of the SCO Evgeniy Sysoev.
