Meeting with the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov
DUSHANBE, 20.11.2018. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On November 20, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov, who is in Tajikistan on a working visit. The meeting took place in the Palace of the Nation.
During the meeting the two sides discussed bilateral matters of cooperation of the two countries, including further development of inter-parliamentary relations.
The Leader of the country Emomali Rahmon expressed confidence that the visit of Uzbek parliament speaker would promote further development of mutually beneficial partnership between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
At the beginning of the conversation, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov congratulated the Head of the Tajik state Emomali Rahmon on launching of the first hydro unit of the Roghun hydropower plant, and said that “I admire very much successful launch of this gigantic facility. This important event will remain forever in the history of Tajikistan statehood and the implementation of the Roghun hydropower project was of significant importance not only for Tajikistan but also for the whole Central Asian region. This unique project was realized thanks to your strong will and your far-sighted policy”.
It was emphasized that our relations had reached a new level of strategic partnership, i.e. to achieve this objective, the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan gave a powerful impetus.
Both parties have affirmed their readiness to further strengthening inter-parliamentary relations, including setting up of Tajikistani — Uzbekistani Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups and sharing the experience on legislations.
Areas such as trade, economy, and transportation hold great potential for cooperation. Increase in trade turnover, the implementation of reached agreements, reopening of the border crossing checkpoints, air routes, visa-free regime, construction of railways and highways, cultural and humanitarian cooperation could serve the well-being of the two peoples of the both countries.
While discussing the Tajikistani — Uzbekistani cooperation on the international scene, the two sides exchanged opinions on cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organised crime.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
