DUSHANBE, 04.12.2018.(NIAT Khovar) – Shamsiddin Orumbekzoda, minister of culture of the Tajikistan, met with Marilyn Josefson, the newly appointed head of the EU delegation to Tajikistan, on Monday, reported the Press Center of the Ministry of Culture (MC).
During the meeting, Josefson congratulated the Tajik ministry and the cultural figures of the country with the inclusion of Chakan embroidery on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Chakan embroidery is used to decorate clothing and household items such as dresses, headscarves, pillows, bedspreads and coverlets for cradles. The embroidery features symbolic depictions and elements of nature.
The practice involves drawing ornaments, creating needlepoint images and sewing clothes. The threads were prepared from cotton and silk fibers and colored with natural paints made from plants and minerals, but now mainly fabric threads are used for needlework.
