Tajikistan Initiates High Level Side Event on Countering Terrorism
DUSHANBE, 30.09.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – A high-level event International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime initiated by Tajikistan was held on Friday on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The event was chaired by the Tajik Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin and was organized in collaboration with Canada, Qatar, Peru, Spain, Kazakhstan, the United Nations Department of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Organized Crime (UNODC) and.
The meeting was attended by representatives of more than 50 UN member-states and international organizations.
The Prime Minister of Tajikistan Qohir Rasulzoda and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov delivered statements at the opening ceremony.
The ministers of foreign affairs of Hungary and Kyrgyzstan, the Spanish secretary of state, deputy foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, the Philippines and special envoys on counter-terrorism from Qatar, Indonesia and other high-level representatives from the UN member states also addressed the meeting.
Most of the participants commended the results of the Dushanbe Conference and noted the contribution of Tajikistan in this area.
In his statement, Rasulzoda briefed the participants on the outcomes of the High-level International Conference entitled International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime held in Dushanbe on May 16-17, 2019.
Rasulzoda also highlighted the efforts of the government of Tajikistan in countering the international terrorism, transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking.
