Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Summons Kyrgyz Chargé d’Affaires
DUSHANBE, 18.09.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The Charge d’Affaires of the Kyrgyz Republic in Tajikistan was called yesterday to the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to discuss the conflict that took place on September 16 in the Bahor area of the rural Ovchi-Kalacha community in the Bobojon Gafurov district in Sughd between Tajik and Kyrgyz residents.
During the meeting, the Tajik side protested the actions of the Kyrgyz side, which once again, contrary to the previously signed agreements, began the construction of facilities on an undivided section of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was noted that the Kyrgyz side attracted 250-300 servicemen to the scene, who proceeded to use firearms against civilians in the Tajik area of Bahor, thereby forcing the Tajik border units to take retaliatory measures to ensure the safety of civilians.
As a result of the provocative actions by the Kyrgyz servicemen, three Tajik soldiers were fatally wounded, and civilians, including women and two children recieved injuries.
In order to comply with previously reached agreements, including during the meeting of the heads of two states in July of this year, the Tajik side once again urged the Kyrgyz side to refrain from destructive actions on the state border and take urgent measures to prevent the occurrence of such provocations.
The Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed a note of protest to the Kyrgyz official.
