Climate change is exacerbating the uneven distribution of water resources, increasing the frequency and intensity of droughts and floods, and affecting water quality, according to the Dushanbe Water Process Secretariat. These trends pose serious challenges to water availability, agriculture, energy and public health in many countries.
Participants at the Fourth International High-Level Conference in Dushanbe are set to discuss science-based approaches to assessing and mitigating climate-related risks to water resources.
Particular attention will focus on adaptation strategies, early warning systems and the development of resilient water infrastructure. The exchange of knowledge and experience is expected to strengthen climate resilience and improve preparedness for future water-related challenges.
