Political Parties Will Receive 40 Minutes of Free Airtime for 2020 Election
DUSHANBE, 16.12.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – The 2020 Supreme Assembly elections which will be held on March 1 were discussed at a meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER). The meeting was chaired by CCER’s Chairman Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda.
The meeting focused the preparation and organization of elections of deputies of the Assembly of Representatives, the creation of CCER’s press center, determining the procedure for using the media by candidates and political parties in campaigning, and creating a working group for consideration of complaints and applications, approval of leaflet for police officers, as well as other organizational issues.
The press center’s will be comprehensively covering the process of preparing and conducting the election of the new convocation of deputies of the Assembly of Representatives.
The procedure developed by CCER for the use of mass media by candidates and political parties in pre-election campaigns will provide for free airtime on state TV and radio for each political party for up to 40 minutes and for candidates for deputies of the Assembly of Representatives from single-member constituencies for up to 20 minutes.
According to the order, political parties and candidates will have the right to publish up to eight pages of free campaign material free of charge in republican, regional, city and district newspapers.
Also, in order to provide practical assistance to CCER during the preparation of the upcoming elections, specialists, legal scholars and experts from other fields are involved in the commission as experts.
The meeting also adopted a guide developed for police officers for assisting police officers in the relevant election commissions in the electoral process and upholding the citizens’ electoral rights.
Other issues relating to the organization of the work of cthe onstituency and precinct election commissions were discussed at the meeting.
