Tajik FM Muhriddin Attends OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Bratislava
DUSHANBE, 06.12.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin paid a working visit to the Slovak Republic, where he took part in a working meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and 26th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) where he held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of this event.
The foreign ministers discussed the CSTO member states’ interaction within the OSCE in the field of international and regional security and Tajikistan’s priorities in three dimensions of the OSCE activities.
According to MFA’s Information Department, Muhriddin elaborated on the main challenges of the modern world, such as the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and climate change.
During his meeting with the Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal Teresa Ribeiro the parties expressed satisfaction with the level of political relations and emphasized the necessity of developing cultural and economic ties between Tajikistan and Portugal. Organization of business forums and exchange visits of business representatives as well as issues related to climate change and water management, in particular advancement of the objectives of the decade “Water for Sustainable Development” were discussed.
Muhriddin also met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain Fernando Marzo and with the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger.
Muhriddin and Marzo exchanged views on the further development and enhancement of bilateral relations and expressed readiness to continue mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of international organizations and on water issues.
While meeting with the OSCE Secretary General, Muhriddin and Greminger discussed the prospects for cooperation between Tajikistan and the OSCE based on three dimensions of the organization, Dushanbe Process on countering terrorism, the implementation of the goals of the Water Action Decade in 2020 and other topics of mutual interest.
The talks with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian focused on the further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU, implementation of a new EU Strategy on Central Asia, and other joint events.
