Novel coronavirus death toll in China reaches 425, number of cases tops 20,400

DUSHANBE, 04.02.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – The number of confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the 2019-nCoV novel coronavirus in China exceeded 20,400 on Tuesday, 425 people have died, TASS reports citing the bulletins published by regional Chinese authorities.

The coronavirus infection is suspected in more than 23,200 Chinese residents. To date, 632 patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals.

In the past 24 hours, the number of people diagnosed with the disease rose by 3,200 people. A total of 64 people died in the reported period.

According to latest reports, more than half of all cases (13,500 patients and 414 deaths) have been reported in the Hubei province, whose administrative center, Wuhan, has become the starting point of the outbreak. A total of 2,345 new coronavirus cases have been detected in the region in the past day, 64 people died.

Hubei is followed by the provinces of Guangdong (725 cases), Zhejiang (724), Henan (566), Hunan (521) and Anhui (408). A total of 212 cases have been confirmed in the capital Beijing and 203 — in Shanghai.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of an unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan — a large trade and industrial center in central China populated by 11 million people. The city has since been closed off for entry and exit. Foreign states, including the US and Japan, are evacuating their citizens from Wuhan and the surrounding Hubei province.

Cases of coronavirus have been detected in 23 countries outside of China, including Russia. On January 30, the WHO declared an international public health emergency over the outbreak of 2019-nCoV.
