High Wet Snow and Avalanche Risk Expected on Mountainous Roads
DUSHANBE, 13.04.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Adverse weather in the form of heavy rains, thunderstorms, hail, lightning, and wet snow in mountains above the elevation of 2000 meters will remain in Tajikistan until the weekend, according to the Tajik Hydrometeorological Agency. Mudflows, avalanches and rockfalls are also expected on mountainous roads, reports the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the government of Tajikistan.
Strong precipitation intensity can result in sharp rises in the upper reaches of rivers and small streams. Rain and river runoff, flooding, and threats to the safety of low-water bridges and dams remains high.
The Committee warns that the forecasted weather can cause damage to power lines, trees, houses, and other structures.
“While on the street, avoid being close to power lines, trees, billboards, and loose structures,” warns the Emergency Committee, which is urging residents to be careful while driving on mountainous roads, and to thoroughly prepare vehicles before trips, likewise to refrain from venturing on dangerous sections of roads.
