Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs Calls Kyrgyz Ambassador Rustenbekov
DUSHANBE, 09.05.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – In connection with the incident that occurred on May 8 on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan called Kyrgyz Ambassador Zhanysh Rustenbekov.
The Tajik MFA handed the Ambassador a note of protest in connection with the provocative actions of Kyrgyz citizens and military personnel that led to the armed incident.
Rustenbekov was informed that the cause of the incident was a targeted shot from a firearm by a Kyrgyz citizen, and the subsequent escalating actions of the Kyrgyz border guards, which forced the Tajik border units to take retaliatory measures.
It was noted that as a result of unlawful actions by citizens and military personnel of the neighboring country, two Tajik citizens were seriously injured and later hospitalized.
The entire responsibility for exacerbating the situation in the border lies with the Kyrgyz side.
The Tajik MFA demands an end to provocative actions with the use of firearms, a thorough investigation of the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
While drawing attention to the media coverage of the Kyrgyz MFA, Tajik Foreign Ministry points out the inadmissibility of linking the incident with the themes of the Great Patriotic War and the holy month of Ramadan, and calls for solidarity in honoring the common bright holiday and memory of the great veterans.
