Tajikistan and EU Hold Committee for Cooperation Meeting

DUSHANBE, 29.07.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, the eighth meeting of the Committee for Cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union was held in Dushanbe in order to expand cooperation.
The Tajik delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda, and the EU Delegation was led by the Acting Director of the Department for Russia, South Asia and close partners, Central Asian countries, OSCE, EECE Luc Devin.
The meeting focused on key aspects of partnership and cooperation, topical issues on the EU New Strategy, the development of the macroeconomic sectors of Tajikistan, taking into account its regional integration, trade relations, energy and water spheres, foreign policy, the rule of law and human rights.
In his speech, Abdurahmonzoda noted the importance of EU’s support and, in order to fulfill President Emomali Rahmon’s instructions, stressed the importance of regular activities of the Republican Commission and the adoption of an action plan to prevent and reduce the potential impact of COVID-19 on the economy.
The parties also identified new areas of cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU. In particular, the project of a new multi-year indicative Program for Tajikistan for the period 2021-2027 to finance socio-economic sectors.
Also, in order to improve the well-being of vulnerable groups by providing electricity, the parties stressed the importance of signing a trilateral agreement on the allocation of funds in the amount of €18.6 million for the implementation of the construction of the Sebzor HPP.
The protocol of the 7th meeting of the Committee for Cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU was also signed.
