DUSHANBE, 27.07.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – As part of a major project to modernize the network of seismic stations Tajikistan will build three new seismic stations. The latest technology is already being delivered to the country. This information was provided today at a press conference by the Director of the Center for Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences Sabit Negmatullaev.

According to him, in connection with the joint construction of two 70-meter dams by Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the first seismic station will be built in the Zaravshon area. The second will be built in the area of Sarez Lake, with consequential benefits to neighboring states.

“Water is a great wealth for our country, which can bring great profits. The price of fresh water is growing yearly. Today, one cubic kilometer of water is worth $3 billion. The third station will be built in the Murghob district,” the scientist commented.

“When these three stations are built, and five more existing stations are modernized, then one of the best reference seismic systems in Central Asia will be created in Tajikistan,” Negmatulloev emphasized.

While touching on the frequency of earthquakes, Negmatulloev explained that all earthquakes that have occurred in last six months are within the expected norm.

Meanwhile, it was noted that the studies carried out over the past 30 years on the causes of earthquakes published in the journal Science on Earth, contributed to the well-known scientific publications seeking to collaborate and publish the research of Tajik scientists.
