DUSHANBE, 25.07.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday at a press conference, the Committee for Tourism Development of Tajikistan noted the measures taken to support the tourism sector in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to assist travel agencies to get out of the crisis, a special section has been created on the committee’s website, which includes useful information, including the experience of other states.
The committee is actively working with international partners. The issue of creating a fund for anti-crisis support for tourism is also being considered. Its assets will be directed to the development of tourism through the implementation of various steps, including the creation of expert groups, informed the committee’s officials. As the pandemic has been having a more serious impact than expected, the response team created at the committee has conducted a study on the effect of coronavirus on the tourism industry.
“Due to the coronavirus pandemic, travel agencies have been hit drastically, with losses in revenue ranging from 40% to 100%,” it said at a press conference.
It was noted that while the pandemic is a big problem, it also presents an opportunity for the tourism industry to build up its potential.
According to the World Tourism Organization, the projected losses in tourism in 2020 in the world will amount to $80 billion. The decline in tourism is expected to be 60 to 80%.
