President Emomali Rahmon Receives US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation

DUSHANBE, 03.10.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the US Special Representative for Reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, who is in Tajikistan on a working visit.
During the meeting the sides discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, focusing on the process of intra-Afghan peace negotiations, as well as regional and international matters.
In this regard, President Rahmon stressed that the process of development of the situation in Afghanistan and the promotion of multifaceted relations of Tajikistan with it is constantly in the center of attention.
Tajikistan supports the position of the Afghan government to ensure peace and stability in this country – noted President Rahmon and added that he welcomes the inter-Afghan negotiation process.
During the meeting the sides also exchanged views on the importance of further pursuing issues related to the development and expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States.
While discussing intra-Afghan peace negotiations they emphasized the need to expand cooperation in the field of joint struggle against modern threats and challenges, including terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other transnational organized crime.
It was noted that Tajikistan is taking all measures and will continue to put effort to help resolve the problems of Afghanistan and its socio-economic recovery.
