SPECA States Discuss Facilitation of Cross-Border and Paperless Trade for Economic Recovery

DUSHANBE, 19.11.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – The Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda chaired the 15th meeting of the Working Group on Trade of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) via video conference.
The meeting was attended by representatives of SPECA member states, and experts from a number of international and regional organizations.
Abdurahmonzoda provided information on the achievements of Tajikistan in international trade based on President Emomali Rahmon’s instructions and taken measures by the country’s government in order to repel negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, country’s participation in the World Trade Organization (WTO), facilitation of trade procedures, export development, and the acceleration of the process of diversification of export-oriented products.
The meeting focused on SPECA’s regional strategy on trade facilitation and related roadmap, collaboration among SPECA countries in facing the COVID-19 crisis, further development and implementation of the Principles for Sustainable Trade in the sub-region, as well as studies and recommendations on non-tariff barriers to trade in the age of the pandemic.
The participants also discussed issues relating to the facilitation of cross-border and paperless trade for restoration of the economy and attraction of foreign investment.
