President Emomali Rahmon Holds a Telephone Conversation with His Afghan Counterpart

DUSHANBE, 11.02.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
In an atmosphere of mutual understanding, the two sides exchanged views on topical international and regional issues of mutual interest.
Special attention was paid to the process of intra-Afghan peace talks, and finding effective ways to establish peace and nationwide stability in Afghanistan.
President Rahmon reiterated that Tajikistan has always supported the government of Afghanistan in its ongoing efforts to establish peace, stability and rebuilding of the country and will continue to stand firm in this position.
The parties also expressed their interest in further strengthening and expanding mutually beneficial bilateral relations in various areas of mutual interest, including in the economic, trade and social spheres.
While exchanging views on security collaboration, the counterparts also touched on current situation on the Tajik-Afghan border.
President Rahmon stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two countries in combating modern threats and challenges, in particular terrorism, violent extremism and drug trafficking.
Continuing talks, the sides discussed the holding of the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process, and agreed to hold it in Dushanbe in late March under the auspices of Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
