Foreign Ministers of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan Hold Telephone Conversation

DUSHANBE, 06.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, at Turkmenistan’s request, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin held a telephone conversation with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
Muhriddin informed Meredov about the recent incidents on the border with the Kyrgyz Republic and the agreements reached to stabilize the situation. He confirmed Tajikistan’s intention to settle border issues with Kyrgyzstan exclusively through negotiations and a search for mutually acceptable formulas, taking into account the country’s national interests.
The ministers also held a thorough exchange of views on the state and prospects of Tajik-Turkmen relations, identified forthcoming practical steps for holding a series of bilateral events in the context of implementing the agreements reached on April 28 during a telephone conversation between the Presidents of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
