Tajik and Turkish Foreign Ministers Discuss Current State on the Tajik-Kyrgyz Border

DUSHANBE, 01.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Mukhriddin had a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Chavushoglu.
The conversation focused on the current situation at the Tajik-Kyrgyz border zone.
In particular, Muhriddin informed his Turkish counterpart about the recent border incidents with the Kyrgyz Republic and the agreements reached on the result of negotiations between the countries to stabilize the situation, including the ceasefire and the willingness of the parties to resolve the situation through negotiations using political and diplomatic methods.
Muhriddin highlighted the importance of the telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries to resolve the situation at the border.
Also, he expressed Tajikistan’s strong commitment to progressively resolve this issue through negotiations and mutually acceptable formulas based on national interests.
Chavushoglu welcomed the reached agreement on a ceasefire and the signing of Protocols on the settlement of the conflict situation at the Tajik-Kyrgyz border and on the resumption of negotiations on the border delimitation and demarcation.
He also assured the commitment and interest of the Turkish side only in a peaceful resolution of the current situation and expressed readiness to render every assistance in maintaining peace and normalizing relations between the two neighboring countries.
Following the conversation, the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey in areas of mutual interest.
The conversation was held in the spirit of openness, friendship and mutual understanding.
